Stroke occurs either when the blood supply to the brain is compromised or if the blood that is flown to the brain, the vessel carrying the blood to the brain is blocked or for some reason it gets ruptured and the blood flows to the brain parenchyma. So there are sudden instances where the patients comes to us with a compliant of a memory issue they have little bit of behavioural changes recently they have difficulty in walking, and when we evaluate them and when we do a scan of the brain or if we do MRI of brain, we see blockages and if we ask them they are never aware that they had a stroke in the past and these can be termed as silent stroke. Very important cause there will be underlying risk factors for the development of underlying blockages in the brain. We need to evaluate that and treat them accordingly. Second thing is pressure or transient ischemic attack, where there is sudden cessation of blood supply to the brain or a compromise of the blood to the brain and then recovers like of any patient who comes with a sudden onset of weakness of the legs or the hands, which is there for few hours and recover, this we call as transient ischemic attack. It is very important where the body is giving warning signals to us and there is an imminent stroke , there is something underlying wrong in the blood flow to the brain which we can rectify and prevent a permanent stroke. So whenever any of the patient have any of these symptoms that is sudden onset of weakness on one side or not able to walk or not able to talk, suddenly he goes blind and recovers within few minutes to hours, he has slurring of speech and recovers and he needs to rush immediately to a hospital where there is a neurologist and get himself evaluated and look of he has any risk factors for stroke and get it treated accordingly.
