Every two seconds, someone in the world has a stroke. One out of every six people will have a stroke at some point in their lives. Strokes deprive brain cells of oxygen and are one of the most common causes of death, and a leading cause of preventable disability. But what causes strokes in the first place? And what can doctors do to treat them? Vaibhav Goswami takes us into the body to find out.

My mom got stroked, at that time I was the only one who was able to witness everything that had happened. I didn’t know what to do because I was just in 5th grade. After that, she had short-term memory, she didn’t get out of the house, she didn’t took care of us anymore as if she didn’t know who we were. It was heartbreaking. I wish it never happened, I loved her so much and she was the best mom ever
Mom: Smile honey
Me: -_-
Mom: Oh my god, get him to a hospital
Too bad in the Philippines especially in my town. No paramedics, the ambulance doesn’t have any apparatus. There are two Hospitals, but Doctors are rare to be seen, so most of the patients gets tansferred in another town which is 1 hour away. And the hospitals in the nearby town sometimes ask to transfer to a bigger and much advanced hospital because they cannot attend to a patient with a certain condition. 🤦♀️

I work in EMS and see stuff like this often. It’s scary to me how one moment you can be fine and the next you can be having a stroke or stemi. I feel for my patients and always do my best for them but I know sometimes these sudden and random occurrences can change their lives permanently or kill them.
And then selfish people came
