Stroke Survivor: Cindi's Story
On the night of April 23, 2017, Cindi, a 46-year old graphic designer who lives in Salinas, California, went to bed around 10:30pm,
anticipating a 5:00am wake-up from her husband, as she was scheduled for outpatient surgery at Stanford. She did arrive at Stanford the next morning—not as an outpatient, but as the victim of a massive ischemic stroke.
In 2000, I had two strokes within days of each other. The neurologist said that I had been having "mini-strokes" or "Trans Ischemic Attacks (TIA’s)" for years. All the physicians agreed that a congenital heart problem called Atrial Septal Defect was causing the strokes. After the first major stroke, however, I was not well enough to undergo the corrective heart surgery. First, I would have to build strength and endurance through physical therapy, The right-sided strokes had rendered the left side of my body numb to the touch, heavy, and extremely uncoordinated. Peripheral vision was permanently damaged. It was difficult to stay awake, least of all alert. The brain stem swelling caused imbalance, dizziness, and at times a slowing of respiration. Stroke affected vital pathways in my brain, causing constant electric-like pain on the left side of my body.

I remember how it all started some years back. That night I started having some funny sensation on my legs only to wake up the following morning to discover I hardly could move my legs. I quickly rushed to a hospital. But two days later, the doctors referred me to Mayo Clinic, where I was diagnosed with a partial paralysis. Immediately treatment started. Cerebral stroke is a brain disorder. My friend also had this problem. She used various medicines but had no relief. Then she tried Ayurvedic treatment of "Planet Ayurveda". It includes Brahmi Capsules,
