Stroke Certification at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano

“We have a tremendous emergency room that is well prepared and well trained in strokes,” said Dr. Charisse Barta, physician on the medical staff at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano. “They are very knowledgeable about what a stroke looks like, and are well trained in how to efficiently get a patient into the emergency room.

“We have become stroke accredited so that we can quickly present a stroke, recognize the stroke, and then activate our stroke team so that patients can get TPA if that is appropriate as quickly as possible, so that they can get the best result possible in the end. And then we have set up our entire program in an appropriate manner so that the patients can get all the necessary areas fulfilled, including rehab and nurse preparation so that they know how to deal with patients, and we have specialized stroke floors now, so that the patients are seen by nurses who have been trained specifically in stroke and know what to do with stroke patients and how to care for stroke patients in an appropriate manner.”
