Rehabilitation After Stroke Functional Electrical Stimulation FES Facilitates Walking

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is an established rehabilitation modality used to stimulate the nerves that connect the spinal cord to muscles. Stimulating these nerves evokes patterned movement of the legs, which is how FES enables the muscles to perform even though a patient may have lost all or some voluntary control of the muscles. Following a devastating stroke, Britta successfully used FES as part of her outpatient therapy regime.

I’ve called many places in Houston and cannot find one that offers this. We have been to TIRR and Methodist neuroscience rehab.

  11. Angelica Cline on November 28, 2021 at 11:06 am

Not in any of the physical therapy that I did was this offered to use. Since I did numerous locations most of the major ones in the Las Vegas area. I find that this is not helpful for most stroke patients since most places are not going to offer the use of one.

I heard muscle stimulation can damage the muscles if prolonged use. Any information i can read more about muscle stimulation or something like this?

I’m not enrolled (I can only rely on research) and sometimes i just can’t get up or control my limbs at all. I’ve been in hospitals 2 times now and still unresolved. I live in poor areas and my family can’t afford another hospitalization or even pursue education…
