Recovery following stroke: How long will it take?

Recovery following stroke: How long will it take?

Stoke patients commonly ask how long it will take to regain function and strength following a stroke. While it depends largely on the extent of damage caused by the stroke initially, Mark Tornero, MD, a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, says it typically takes weeks to months. While most gains are made in the first six months, additional recovery can still occur 1-2 years out. Dr. Tornero emphasizes the importance of early intervention through in-patient therapy as the quickest road to recovery. I respect what the doctor says but both my arm and feet didn’t start waking up till year 2…yeah..year two. I’ve actually focused on stroke for many years with my job s a massage therapist. You can’t believe everything a doctor tells you. I know the coping mechanism for disabled people but with stroke..yOU ARE JUST GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT, till you regain back the movement. Still though. exercise is the key because your retraining to brain the proper form for movement and obviously look good too haha. Oh, one more thing I had a major stroke, for those who want to know. It will be the hardest thing you’ve ever come across. It will test your patience and your well being….good luck. If I can do it…you can too!
