Recognize the Signs and Symptoms of Stroke

When someone is having a stroke, every minute counts. Just as putting out a fire quickly can stop it from spreading, treating a stroke quickly can reduce damage to the brain. If you learn how to recognize the telltale signs of a stroke, you can act quickly and save a life—maybe even your own.

My vision was the most tell tale sign. I called 9-1-1 and went to the emergency dept. where they thought I was on drugs. Had the eye clinic person on call who was probably a student give me an eye exam. She kept yelling at me to read the chart. I could not because my vision was not so that I could see to read anything clearly. Finally they admitted me and did a ct scan which didn’t show anything. The next day an MRI showed the stroke in occipital are and an old one in cerebellum which explains why I suddenly fell over from the porch to get the newspaper. My vision eventually returned so I could read but it was distorted. I wrote off the right side of the check for instance.

16 years later I attribute the game of Scrabble to have helped me the most. Vision 20/20 after cataract surgery this month. I am blessed and thankful my fear of going blind through prayer also subsided.
