Parents agree, it takes a village to raise a child. Faculty at the UA College of Medicine — Phoenix agree, it takes a community to train a physician. Dr. Elaine Niggemann, Director, Hematology/Cardiovascular & Pulmonary/Renal/Acid-Base Blocks and Assistant Professor asked six of her patients to participate in an interactive cardiology training session with first-year medical students. Each patient had a heart murmur and it was an important lesson for students not only to hear the murmur with their own stethoscope, but to understand how the murmur sounds different places across the body. Local cardiologists also joined in to provide guidance and instruction.
