LifeBridge Health Medical Moment- Primary Stroke Centers

When a stroke occurs, a blood vessel that goes to the brain is blocked or has a rupture. When that blood doesn’t reach the brain, a part of the brain is deprived of oxygen and the brain cells begin to die. It can happen to anyone at any time.

That’s why it’s important to learn the BE FAST reminder of stroke signs:

B – Balance: Does the person have a sudden loss of balance or coordination?
E – Eyes: Is the person experiencing double vision? Is the person unable to see out of one eye?
F – Face: Is one side of the person’s face drooping? Ask the person to smile.
A – Arms: Does one arm drift downward? Ask the person to raise both arms.
S – Speech: Is the person slurring speech of having difficulty saying the correct word? Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase.
T – Time: Time to act! Call 911. Get the person to a certified stroke center—such as Sinai Hospital’s Primary Stroke Center—immediately.
