Today we are discussing kidney failure symptoms, the signs of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Many of my patients whom I diagnose had no idea of the kidney failure symptoms. Many of them were also unaware that they were even at risk for kidney failure or kidney disease.

On Nov 3, 2016, I was told I will not be getting a kidney transplant because I have blood circulation problems.i had *Peyronies* for years. I live in the US. My wife have had many miscarriages over 18 year’s of marriage we have done everything possible in the medical field with no results. In my 20’s, I developed venous statis in which the capillaries pop and my skin darkens on both my legs below my knees and above my ankles. I have an inherited kidney disease as FSGS and minimal change, two kidney disorders. At that time, there was no treatment for me because my blood was normal but I had proteinuria alot of it.
My kidney disease didn’t really get bad until 2006, then I was referred to a kidney doctor. I have prescribed predisone. It didn’t work on me. It was supposed to slow down the disease. But my problems began to appear in 2012, when I started to gain weight, I thought at the time I was eating too much, but I later discovered it was excess water. Because later that year, my legs started to leak water. I actually had to squeeze the water out of my socks and trousers. Then I developed claudication which causes pain on my calf muscles in the back of my legs. I would walk a few steps and they would seize up. I would rest a few moments and the pain would go away Then walk a few
more steps and again experience pain. Then in February 2014, my kidneys finally failed and I was put on haemodialysis. Then I lost circulation in my toes, then gangrene then amputations in May 2014 on my left foot then my left leg below the knee in June 2014 Then my big toe on my right leg, on October 2014, and the now the rest of my toes in Nov 2014. By July 2014, I lost 40 liters of water or 88 pounds of water through haemodialysis. I thought since I had 20 other medical problems besides my 2 kidney disorders that I wouldn’t qualify for a kidney transplant. Plus I have 47 chromosomes. But at least, I now know, I won’t be getting a kidney Unless someone invents a cure for poor blood circulation. Not every one who has a chronic kidney disorder will have the kind of problems I have had.recently I was introduced to a herbalist from China by a doctor friend from India, we have to fly from India where I went for the treatment to meet with the herbalist dr shen in China.just in about two months later I was cured of kidney disease, peyronie’s and other diseases with herbs and oil and my wife became pregnant after using his herbs and oil too also. We are few years without pain and symptoms is my email address if you need more information about Dr Shen.

Doc – Can someone w/ fibro be prone to kidney failure similarly to those with lupus?
My lower legs and ankles are HORRIBLY swollen x 3 months with no end in sight, but I don’t have the other sx. My Doc ran bloodwork but it’s all normal. I thought that I had a sweet odor coming off me the last 2 days and I know that could be ketones but I’m not diabetic however, I eat far too little and drink a protein shake every day for the amino acids more than for the protein. My husband and I are both terrible at keeping a balanced diet and eat too much protein, but I don’t think diabetes is in the picture.
Between the fibro and the pain of the swelling I just haven’t had any appetite at all. I also have spinal cord damage and that’s getting worse. My hands go to sleep a LOT and I have numb patches on and off in different parts of my legs. My PCP is stumped. Could you recommend some bloodwork to try besides he CBC, ‘lytes, chem panels bc I’ve had hose and – normal. No proteinuria either. I heard you speak of the phosphorous levels – should I have that drawn? Do you have any other advice, suggestions? It seems like EVERY doctor that I see drops the ball with me or says I’m "exaggerating" but I REALLY need to find someone who’ll take this seriously and help bc I’m absolutely miserable. Thank-you and Merry Christmas!

I drink Beer a lot and and often use the rest room is this a sign of kidney failure

  18. Sandra.J.G. Thompson on December 26, 2021 at 12:30 pm

I have grade 3 Chronic Kidney Disease. I have high blood pressure being treated successfully, but at times my numbers do go up. My feet and ankles seem to always be swollen. The main symptom I am having now is fluid I can feel in my lungs and heart. If I take furosemide, I will urinate the rest of the day. Because of other co-morbidities, I have filled out a MOLST form here in New York State which basically says I do not want any heroics and I request "Do Not Resuscitate." Personally, I think all of my kidney issues relate to my taking my Mom’s Lasix when I was younger, and then in college started taking tons of Motrin for headaches, which as you know causes you to retain water. I’m 69 years old and disabled. I have no feeling below the knees which is idiopathic. Is it possible that neuropathy could be related to the CKD? I enjoyed your video and subscribed and look forward to your other videos. Thank you!

  20. Malou Navarro on December 26, 2021 at 12:32 pm

I regularly monitor my blood chemistry every month i take the test for blood chem 10. Last month i had injury and took me awhile to recover and had fresh new recruits on my injury. It’s been two weeks and im still experiencing fluid retention on the injured area. Im currently undegoing PT as per my ortho advice due to possible nerve blockage. As per my latest blood chem test dec18, my creatinine increased to 99mg/dl due to the NSAIDs prescribed to me. So i immediately stopped and just took occasionally paracetamol for the pain and inflammation. And i already cut th3 protein intake for 1wk so that my creatinine level will go down to 80 again.

I’m sickle cell anemia, I have low blood pressure and I’ve had several diagnosis for ankle swelling of proper circulation due to I sit at a desk for 8 hours or more a daily, but I’ve been suffering w/ankle swelling for years. Every doctor I’ve seen says the same thing, but I think it’s something else since I suffer from this daily. When I do a ginger foot soak the swelling goes down, so what could be causing this?

I have all of these symptoms Extremely bubbly urine, Tremors, Memory loss, falling, insomnia, metallic taste, filling of being too full, loss of appetite, I usually have an decreased urine output and barely go at all. I am getting to the point where I forget how to spell simple words like "Tennessee, Confront, eleven, etc." I forget how to spell words a 3rd grade student could spell. Now I deal with chronic Backpain, Chestpain, and fatigue and I’m starting to slur my words extremely often.

My FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner) has been saying for a while now that my kidney function is *slightly* low, just on the verge of being fine. I have high blood pressure and swollen ankles and feet. He told me a kidney specialist would tell me the same thing, it is not something that needs action, but he does keep a close watch on my kidney function, to make sure there is no change. But all of this makes me uneasy. 🙁 I don’t want to be labeled a hypochondriac but I also don’t want to die of something just because I was too timid to ask for a referral. I don’t know.

I lost my lower right leg due to an inquiry to my toe that got infected.. But that’s not all. I was septic and had adrenal failure. During surgery I coded 3 times. I woke up to having dialysis. I spent a month in the hospital and had dialysis about 3 it 4 times a week plus 2 blood transfusions. Lucky my kidneys improved and no more dialysis. But recently I’m sitting signs of kidney failure and I’m scared..

I have kidney cancer. The only one of these that I had was number one fatigue. I would take a nap in the afternoon with my grandson.
I thought it was just because I am getting old. I would also get up once at night to use the restroom. I did not consider that to be frequent urination at night.

The only way I found out I had cancer was because I fell from a tree, hunting accident. 17 feet. I had a lot of pain on my right side.
x ray showed nothing wrong. Still had pain after 4 weeks. Got a ct scan, found I had 2 broken ribs and 3 hernias. All on my right side where I fell.
On my left side was a 12cm kidney cancer mass growing on my left kidney. No pain at all from that area. I would have never known I had this if I did not fall from the tree. I fell during my climb down the tree when the branch I was stepping on broke and the other branches I was holding with my hands also broke under my full weight and down I went.

I wish there was a better way to notice failing kidneys. None of these warning signs was severe enough to get my attention. As I said The only one I really had was an afternoon nap. I could not sleep at night more than 6 hours either. So I thought an afternoon nap was perfect for me as I was not getting a full nights sleep. Insomnia was not really the issue with me. I would just get up after 6 hours of sleep. I could sleep every night just fine, but only for 5-6 hours. 6 hours was my max. 5 hours was the minimum. The normal range of sleep was in between 5 and 6 hours a night.

My left leg would also fall asleep on me often during the day. and sometimes go numb. The kidney cancer is on my left kidney.
But none of that is in your video on warning signs. I have no idea if that is related to my issue or not yet. I am in the early stages of just finding out I have kidney cancer. And have a schedule to have it removed surgically. No prognosis has been given to me yet.

Thanks Dr Fritz for such an informative video. I experienced at least 7 of the symptoms that you’ve described. Ive had to deal with RA for over 37 years and prescribed prednisone. Lately, my kidneys are two different sizes. One is bigger than the other. Recently was diagnosed with blockage in both legs. So, swelling in my ankles and legs are common. I realize that more testing is needed but I’m happy that I came across your video. Thanks for what you’re doing by keeping us informed about this silent killer.

  50. Justin on December 26, 2021 at 1:08 pm

I recently developed a non-itchy, non-raised hive rash. Went to the doctor and she did blood work and put me on prednisone. My blood work shows pretty high creatinine level (I’m at and it was 1.46). My sodium is low as well. I have random itching in my outer ears and my forearms that comes and goes. I’m still waiting on her to review and see what we need to do going forward. My blood work does indicate slight anemia as well.
