How to Keep Your Heart From Killing You | Michael Rocha | TEDxNewBedford
There have been some amazing advances in caring for hearts, however, despite all of these advances we still lose far too many people suddenly in the prime of their life. A 2014 study suggested that 4 out of 5 heart attacks may be prevented by eating healthy, exercising, not smoking and maintaining a normal waistline. When New Bedford was recognized as one of the least healthy cities in Massachusetts to grow older, Dr. Michael Rocha laced up his sneakers and became more of a coach than a doctor with a prescription for a community to walk, eat healthy, laugh often and live now.
Michael Rocha is a cardiologist with Hawthorn Medical Associates, LLC and is the Director of Heart Failure Services at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford where he is working to change to the perception from Heart Failure to Heart Wellness. After seeing patients with preventable heart disease in his community, he seized the opportunity to help improve the health and well-being of his hometown of New Bedford beyond just prescriptions. He started the New Bedford Wellness Initiative as a monthly wellness walk that has grown quickly since the first walk in April 2014.

All these treatments but yet Arrhythmia’s still seem to little advancement. Ablations that may or may not work, medications that sometimes help but have terrible side affects. The heart is an amazing organ but when will we start to cure issues instead of mask them and bring back quality of life to so many.
why is wearing a stethoscope?
I do ALL THAT and BP doesn’t come down!!..help please, thanks
I had an ablation for atrial fibrillation 9 years ago with LV dysfunction i try to cycle 5kms every second day, the moment i started taking 10 grams a day of ascorbic acid all my sensative heart problems stopped… thats pure vitamine C, they new years ago it extended the lifes of heart falure patients, dont get me wrong i still take 25 mlg of beater blocker and a blood pressure pill but i have no ectopic or arithmea after i started on ascorbate , witch mantains cells in the muscle……google it ….the wonder of pure ascorbate was known 40 years ago but the fda and ama would prefer you to have a pacemaker……….take all of the advise from this doctor but start on the ascorbate it has dramatic effect’s on the body with zero side effects, the bowl tolerates 3 grams an hour, over that you spray the bowl.
Go for a walk!
Yes you! You reading this!

Think more about Quality of foods than quantity:
Eat Whole Foods
Limit or eliminate processed foods
Eat a variety of whole plant foods, Vegetables, Fruits, Whole Grains, Legumes, a little nuts/seeds.
And exercise, even 20 minutes a day, can help, as he said.
PS: it will also reduce your risk of Alzheimers (Source: „Power Foods for the brain“, TEDxtalk from Dr. Neal Barnard)
Don’t smoke.
Great video, thanks for teaching so many Joel
The only way to keep your heart healthy is a whole Food Plant Based way of eating. Also oil ALL OIL is poison.
You need to learn to stop pacing…it distracts from your talk….great message but stand still a bit more.
this is really motivating that heart diseases can really be prevented by some little cares.
It’s you who’s killing your heart
Thank you 👍🏼
but why? what exactly is a heart attack. What exactly causes blocked arteries? Serious information is missing here. Why after all these years is cardiovascular disease still the biggest killer in the western world? Yeah, I died once when I was a kid too but my dad made me walk it off. c’mon man.
anyone know if the 100 million goal was accomplished?
Such an important message and only 8500 views from 2015 to 2018.
I, me personally can testify to the effectiveness of this plan for treatment.Several other products I`ve tried only lowered the blood pressure for awhile. This is actually the very first that does what it reveals. Following a couple of weeks, my blood pressure level has retained the 145/90 line. Together with Perfect Pressure its now working at 120/70.. Using Google to get this guidebook. This tip is Jason Cυnobroke
Thanks
Very interesting topic….
When he meets the behavioral and spiritual therapist who also knows Martial arts, he sounds a lot like the man Morgan meets in season 6 of the walking dead. You just have to see it to know what I’m talking about. If you know what I’m talking about it’s spot on
Edit: it’s season 6 episode 4. Titled here’s not here.
I’m inspired. Must think of a way to bring knowledge and movement into our community
Thanks mike, Good topic that needs some serious awareness!
So explain the people eating a lot of saturated fats on keto?
Great message. But, What some think is healthy, is not! Diet is 80%, and let’s say 20% stress. it’s the Stress, that is what’s killing us. And if it’s 80% stress and 20% diet, it’s going to either all but kill us, or actually kill you if you’re lucky enough to survive. Over all. STAY AWAY FROM SUGAR. Or things like bread, grain, and especially sugary fruit. Sugar is sugar, fruit or a cookie or a coke, it’s sugar.. Stay away from it.
Video for the heart: „How to keep your body from killing you“
My Point: It’s the people that are killing their hearts, not the other way around
