A 53-Year-Old Stroke Patient Tells His Story – MedStar Health

Gary Willis of Southern Maryland was riding his bike, as he often did, when he suffered a sudden stroke. Emergency responders rushed the 53-year-old first to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, a certified primary stroke center in Leonardtown, Maryland. Gary’s journey of survival, advanced treatment and intense physical rehabilitation would take him next to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, also a certified primary stroke center, and then to MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital where he would walk out on his own.

At MedStar Health our experts work together across the system to ensure stroke patients receive the care they need, whether it’s urgent care, brain surgery, the latest technologies for diagnostics and treatment, cutting-edge clinical trials or rehabilitation.
