I can agree with a good bit of what you said but here’s an important point. I didn’t hear you mention (let alone stress) how to tell if their bike is too lean. When you tell someone not smoking is OK, in fact that’s how it should be, that sets them up for possible detonation and blowing a motor. It’s a very fine balance and you could have a lot newer guys see this, be running way too lean, or make changes that make their bike to lean, think they are spot on with your advice and BAM blown motor. You should really stress how to tell if they have too lean of a set up.

This may be a silly question; but does the same apply to 2 stroke car engines like the Soviet Trabant? Many restored cars in good running order appear to run a lot more cleanly than those that are poorly maintained. I have seen one at a car rally a few years ago and it wasn’t as bad as is made out do by no means modern. Thanks & great video!

Yes but Graham Jarvis rides a TPI

  7. Haiden Mattson on December 14, 2021 at 11:44 am

    Who doesn’t like the smoke😂

  8. Skyline RS*R on December 14, 2021 at 11:46 am

All my 2 strokes run clear when warm, yard tools, bikes ect. I started to wonder why one day but I guessed at the time it was my bad mix ratio or oil type before I officially knew that it was a good thing instead!

  9. TD#1 MkiddWest on December 14, 2021 at 11:48 am

Any idea why my 4 stroke smokes help please I’m new to riding bikes

  10. Brendan Tester on December 14, 2021 at 11:48 am

The more it burns unclean the worse it’ll run? Almost sounds like when people tune a diesel to roll coal lol

  11. BIG_STL_PUSHIN 2008 on December 14, 2021 at 11:50 am

All 2strokes smoke. The amount of oil mixed with the gas will determine the amount of smoke that comes out the exhaust. Two Strokes smoke because they burn oil that goes through the cylinder with the gas it’s like saying a fire won’t smoke.

  12. Robert Wright on December 14, 2021 at 11:51 am

The day my two stroke stops smoking I will

  13. Dexiety y on December 14, 2021 at 11:52 am

  14. Casey carlson on December 14, 2021 at 11:54 am

I tried to explain this to my buddy at work. My KTM only smokes a little when it first starts and after it warms up not at all. You got yourself a new subscriber fine sir!

  15. The cowboy on December 14, 2021 at 11:57 am

My 2 stroke smokes it is a 2 stroke dumb dumb

  16. AjackLee4 on December 14, 2021 at 11:58 am

Makes sense that my RM was running rich, I added more oil to be safe, for the first start up. I’ll try doing a higher mix ratio, maybe 35:1?

  17. crazy lazy bros on December 14, 2021 at 12:00 pm

Mine does it pretty much has lung cancer

  18. Shag It on December 14, 2021 at 12:00 pm

Food for thought…. would this mean the same for old school machines as I have a aircooled IT465.

  19. Scott McDaid on December 14, 2021 at 12:01 pm

My bike doesn’t really smoke it will sometimes when I get on the pipe but then clears up but I do get a bit of sludge is that alright it’s not an extreme amount it’s just a little on the tip of the silencer

  20. easydoz1 on December 14, 2021 at 12:01 pm

I have a polaris trailblazer. It’s air cooled and I am trying to figure out what temperature the cylinder should be. It gets to about 260F when driving hard.

  21. WildAzzRacing on December 14, 2021 at 12:02 pm

    I 100% agree.

  22. Kai Ouellette on December 14, 2021 at 12:07 pm

  26. Jadiv on December 14, 2021 at 12:10 pm

That part when he rubbed the exhaust had me thinking… I thought I was the only one obsessed with 2 strokes and everything about them.😆

  27. On the fly With Jacob on December 14, 2021 at 12:11 pm

Dude awesome video! What oil do you run I had a hard time catching that in the video, I run 927 and I think that’s why my bike smokes so much give me a couple more pointers love it

  28. Edgar Bravo on December 14, 2021 at 12:12 pm

My snowblowers don’t smoke when warmed up. They smoke a little bit when cold start. proper mix has alot to do with it too.

  29. 2stroke time on December 14, 2021 at 12:13 pm

Your hillarious 2 strokes smoke or there gonna blow up billy.bolt and Graham Jarvis run 100 too 1 only reason they don’t look like they smoke on film.but they do keep smoking that good shit!!!

  30. LWLC garage on December 14, 2021 at 12:14 pm

It’s because he’s running a really Lean ratio 32:1 is the way to go

  31. phx10690 on December 14, 2021 at 12:14 pm

  32. BMW on December 14, 2021 at 12:17 pm

Mine doesn’t too cuz i don’t over oil my 2 stroke

  33. Gio MacNeill on December 14, 2021 at 12:17 pm

Wow. Thank you for the video. I’m new to 2 strokes; bought an 06 CR125 last year and I’ve been having nothing but issues. Blue moked like crazy; fouled plugs every 20 minutes; didn’t know heck all about jetting or playing with carbs. And she bogged. Then my brother put it in a pond and it bogged more; plus a nasty rattle.
New piston later and had a professional Jett it is it works. . .better. I think now it’s mostly my skill and gearing holding me back now. . .

Again, thank you for the video; that was a wonderfully informative video for us "2 smoke" noobs.

  37. Joe Dawes on December 14, 2021 at 12:22 pm

    Older 250cc bikes can smoke

  38. NoBrimNoYankee on December 14, 2021 at 12:23 pm

Idk why my two stroke moped smokes

  39. Rex Ferguson on December 14, 2021 at 12:25 pm

My bike is 41 years old, of it smokes, good, means it has oil

  40. Elias Lundstedt on December 14, 2021 at 12:27 pm

my scooter is a 2 stroke, and since I, oh Idk, know how to tune my carb, mine only smokes like a steam engine for the first 10 seconds of standing on the throttle after starting if it has been turned off for 20 mins or more. Granted I think I need to minutely adjust my low speed screw by like 1 degree, to just remove the burble when instantly flooring it that I did not have last year, before I changed the electric choke and spark plug and cleaned the carb and changed the air filter, that I have not oiled, because fuck it.

  41. Nae Catalin on December 14, 2021 at 12:27 pm

all 2 stroke bike smoke like hell so i sell my dirt bike and i buy 4 stroke and im happy now !

  42. Robert Wright on December 14, 2021 at 12:27 pm

Theres certain oils to mix that don’t really smoke but if it’s not smoking from the ratio then your running it lean better for trail riding and putting around so you don’t foul plugs but if your running it hard run it rich when the bike gets hot it’ll need a bit more oil than just idling and warming up mixin gas and hauling ass

  43. Raphael Pedrozo on December 14, 2021 at 12:28 pm

It depende on the 2stroke oil…if its mineral oil it will smoke..if its synthetic it will not smoke alot..

  44. diy deseil 4x4 cotter on December 14, 2021 at 12:28 pm

They all smoke untill they warm up

  45. John Mcclennon on December 14, 2021 at 12:30 pm

I run that redline race oil in my 2021 gasgas mc 125 it smoke when i first crank it after sitting for a week then it clears up and run like a beast there is no spooge in the muffler and that is on the stock jetting.

  46. Tc125 on December 14, 2021 at 12:30 pm

My bike just barely smokes once it’s warmed up and cleared out, I run 40:1 and do fast paced enduro racing and the end of my silencer is has a light film inside but none running down the silencer and no ring around the end

  47. Ryan Mills on December 14, 2021 at 12:31 pm

I saw that my YZ125 today was running right then. On the gas barely any smoke except for when you brapped it or free reved it

  50. Michael Scott on December 14, 2021 at 12:33 pm

Excellent video. Think about air cooled 2 stroke lawn equipment. I have an 8 yo weedeater and I live in Fl. It probably has 40hrs on it. Granted it’s mixed at 50:1 but guess what? No smoke! Very helpful. ’84 KDX200 mixed at 40:1. This video helped me get the most out of it via rejet. This was eye opening for me. Thank you.
